If you’re looking to cool off, have some fun with the family, or simply relax in sparkling blue waters, this wonderful city’s pools offer everything you need.

What I love about The Active Living Centre (located at the University of Manitoba) is its Olympic-sized swimming pool—it’s quite massive, unlike other pools in the area.

Recreational swimming is available throughout the day, and they offer Women’s Only Swim days as well. I always check the pool schedule online before heading over so that I know what to expect.

Before swimming, you should take advantage of the center’s other amenities. There’s a gym, a rock climbing wall (which you have to admit is pretty cool), as well as basketball and racquetball courts.

Take your pick and work up a sweat before diving into the refreshing pool!

Pro Tip:

Active Living Centre offers free classes—from swimming lessons to spin classes, yoga, and strength training, there’s something for everyone. The best part is that you don’t even need to sign up in advance—you can just show up!

Provencher Outdoor Pool, located in Winnipeg’s charming French Quarter, is one of our faves. Here, we can cool off without spending a dime—yep, admission is free!

The pool is stocked with life jackets and plenty of pool toys, but you can totally bring your own floaties. Just a heads up—if you want to hit the deep end, you’ll need to complete your laps first, so get ready to show off those swimming skills.

Our little ones absolutely love the splash pad located right next to the playground. And when it’s time for us to take a break, we simply relax under the shade of the many trees or grab one of the picnic tables.

For larger groups celebrating special occasions (family reunions, birthdays, work events, etc.), you can even reserve a spot—just give 311 a call to book.

Pro Tip:

While suntan lotions are totally welcome, please leave the suntan oils at home. Provencher strictly bans them to help keep the pool water clean for everyone.

Hours: Mon, Sun: 10:30 AM – 7 PM

St. Vital Outdoor Pool is a fantastic spot for a summer swim, and it’s hard to miss thanks to its super cute rainbow-colored outdoor showers.

We love that the pools are heated and have several levels. Plus, there’s a separate splash pool for younger kids and a nice play structure right next to it.

There are some shady spots thanks to the small trees—we always bring in our own food and blankets, and we make use of the large grassy areas for a picnic.

Pro Tip:

St. Vital has lockers available if you want to store your valuables before taking a dip. However, you’ll need to bring your own lock.

Pan Am Pool

Address: 25 Poseidon Bay

Hours: Mon – Fri: 5:45 AM – 9:30 PM

  Sat – Sun: 9 AM – 5 PM

Fun Fact: The Pan Am Pool was originally built for the 1967 Pan American Games. That’s why this indoor facility boasts three pools, two of which are dedicated to competitive swimming.

Of course, it also has an adorable kiddie pool for the little ones. In fact, kids under two get in for free!

In addition to the pools, the space has a full diving area and a range of fitness amenities, including weight rooms and an aerobic studio. We also enjoy strolling around the walk/jog area before or after swimming.

And if you’re looking to host an event, you can book the main pool, kiddie pool, boardroom, table area of the pool deck, or a multi-purpose room.

Pro Tip:

For those who love to swim regularly, don’t miss out on Pan Am’s monthly and annual pass options

Transcona Aquatic Park has four (yep, count ‘em, four!) thrilling water slides, so it’s definitely a place where kids (and adults!) can enjoy hours of fun.

We appreciate the park’s heated outdoor pool—it’s still refreshing but also feels so comfy. Plus, with lifeguards always on duty, you can relax knowing the kids are safe while they play.

For the younger ones, there’s a fantastic spray pad to cool off and play. Don’t forget to bust out your phones—you’re bound to snag some cute Insta-worthy snaps!

Weekends can get pretty busy here, with slide wait times sometimes stretching up to half an hour. That’s why whenever we can, we tend to visit during weekday afternoons for a more laid-back vibe.

Pro Tip:

If you’re planning to stay all day—and trust us, you’ll want to—the park has picnic tables, shaded areas, and lounge chairs. We always pack some sandwiches and munch on them (and gossip? Shhh…) while the kids continue their water adventures.

I have to say, the membership fees at St. James Assiniboia Centennial Pool are very budget-friendly, especially compared to bigger gyms.

The pool has three sections: a kiddie area, a 3-foot zone, and a deep end that features a water slide and diving board. Note that the water slide goes directly into the deeper end—something to keep in mind if your kids aren’t strong swimmers yet.

During the summer, the outdoor splash pad is a hit with the little ones.

Plus, this place is truly a one-stop workout facility because, in addition to the pool, it has a weight room, track, sauna, and hot tub.

Pro Tip:

If you’re considering renting space here, the City of Winnipeg might waive or reduce rental fees, depending on certain criteria. It’s worth checking out their eligibility guidelines online to see if you qualify!

Sergeant Tommy Prince Place

Address: 90 Sinclair St

Contact: +1 877-311-4974

Sergeant Tommy Prince Place, formerly known as North Centennial Recreation & Leisure Facility, has a pool that’s always clean and well-maintained.

Our little ones took swimming classes here, and we just love how much the staff genuinely care about the kids. The instructors are patient, attentive, and really take the time to interact with young swimmers.

The facility also has an indoor gym with a small weights area, treadmill, and elliptical trainer. You can go here before or after your swim to complete your fitness regimen. While it’s not the biggest gym, it gets the job done.

Parking is free, which is always a bonus, and on Saturdays, they offer free swim sessions!

Pro Tip:

During the summer, some local groups hand out free swim passes, so keep an eye out for those. Just be aware that it can get a bit crowded.

Altea Winnipeg

Address: 100 S Town Rd

Hours: Mon – Fri: 5 AM – 11 PM

  Sat – Sun: 6 AM – 9 PM

Contact: (204) 221-3135

Altea offers everything you need to sweat, recover, relax, and connect—all in one premium boutique studio.

One of its highlights is the 25-meter lap pool, which is available to all members for swim training, lessons, or aquafit classes. We think it’s pretty cool that access for your immediate family is included in your membership!

For families, there’s a separate pool area with a splash pad and zero entry—perfect for kids. The private family change rooms are also a nice touch.

Beyond swimming, we love taking advantage of their other amenities. You can enjoy the steam rooms, saunas, and hot tub, or even try a sound bath to fully relax.

Pro Tip:

We recommend taking Altea’s Lifesaving Society Swim Lessons taught by professional instructors because who knows? You might save a life someday!

Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex

Address: 999 Sargent Ave

  Sat – Sun: 7 AM – 6 PM

Contact: +1 877-311-4974

If you love lap swimming, then definitely go to Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex.

The center has three to five lanes usually available, so it’s easy to get your swim in without too much crowding. Plus, you rarely have to share a lane with more than one person, which makes for a smooth, uninterrupted swim.

Done with swimming? Visit the gym, which is equally impressive—clean, well-equipped, and quiet.

And if you’re craving a snack (like I always do!), the concession area offers a surprising treat: Chinese food! Nothing better than a bowl of hard-earned noodles or kung pao chicken after a day of fitness.

Pro Tip:

If you’re heading here for free swim times, be prepared for a bit of a wait—sometimes up to 1-2 hours. It’s best to plan ahead so you can make the most of your time.

Seven Oaks Pool is an awesome indoor swimming spot that my family has been enjoying for over 25 years!

It has a fun indoor water slide and is divided into three zones: Free Swim, Lane Swim, and Dives. Swimming clubs also frequently use the space to teach classes for all age groups.

Our kids can’t get enough of their cute and colorful splash pad area. In fact, it can keep them entertained for hours!

The facilities are well-maintained too—changing rooms and stalls are always clean. It’s thoughtful touches like these that make visiting Seven Oaks Pool such a joy.

Pro Tip:

It can get crowded at Seven Oaks, especially around 3 PM, so if you prefer a quieter swim, try to come during the week rather than on weekends.

Margaret Grant Pool

  Sat: 12:30 PM – 8:30 PM

  Sun: 10:30 AM – 4 PM

Contact Details: 311

For us, Margaret Grant Pool is the warmest pool in the city; it has a perfect lukewarm temperature that’s especially great for kids. And with its comparatively affordable rates, it’s a win-win!

The pool also has free timings for the public, so you can take a dip without breaking your wallet. For families, there are plenty of pool toys to keep the little ones entertained, and we like that life jackets are readily available for added safety.

The open-concept change rooms are a real bonus, especially when you have kids in tow. For instance, we can set up our belongings easily, with the showers conveniently placed within eyesight of the lockers.

And if you’re looking for more than just swimming, you’re in luck! Right near the pool, you can enjoy tennis and soccer, and there are swings for the kids to play on as well.

Pro Tip:

The pool can get crowded on Loonie Toonie days, while public days are generally less busy, except on weekends. If you visit during the winter, you can enjoy the pool with no lines at all.

Kinsmen Sherbrook Pool

  Tue: 9 AM – 5 PM

  Thu: 9 AM – 8 PM

  Sat: 12 PM – 5 PM

  Sun: 10 AM – 5 PM

Contact Details: +1 877-311-4974

Let’s not forget about Kinsmen Sherbrook Pool, a space that should definitely be on your radar! This pool is known for its warm water and pristine cleanliness.

One of the best features here is the free swim days, which are always a hit with families—on these days, our kids get to enjoy the swim toys available. The pool even offers swim lessons for little ones looking to improve their skills.

We love their spacious and thoughtfully designed change rooms. In fact, two private family change rooms are available for those who prefer a bit more privacy.

Feel free to use your bike as there’s an indoor bike parking for those who ride over.

Pro Tip:

If you’re practicing your laps at Kinsmen, it’s best to avoid the free swim times. You might find that some swimmers would inadvertently swim right into you, and you won’t be able to get proper practice.
