Over the past 30 years, The Forks has turned into one of Winnipeg’s go-to spots. What used to be an old railyard is now a fave hangout for both locals and tourists, offering some amazing viewpoints, especially where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet.
There are plenty of great spots here that we go to so that we can soak in the skyline. For instance, you can check out the views from elevated areas near the James Avenue Pumping Station.
Or, we recommend taking a walk across the esplanade for a great look at downtown Winnipeg. We tend to do this after dining so that we can work off what we ate.
The Forks’ rooftop terrace is another awesome place to get a peek at the city’s architecture. We just love looking at the bustling marketplace below and people-watching—whatever you choose, you’ll be sure to enjoy your time here.
Pro Tip: For a truly special experience, head to The Forks around sunset. The light during golden hour makes the skyline pop, and the rivers reflect the city beautifully. |

Catch stunning views of Winnipeg’s skyline while also learning more about history at The Canadian Museum for Human Rights. The building itself is breathtaking, with its “Cloud” of glass made from thousands of custom-cut pieces—each one different!
We love that it’s environmentally conscious, with green roofs covered in prairie grasses and plants native to Manitoba—very lovely to see from above. It’s impressive from the outside, but once you step in, the experience gets even better.
One of the highlights of the Museum is its Tower of Hope on the eighth floor. It’s an absolute must-visit spot if you’re in Winnipeg and want to take in the skyline from above.
And trust me, the views from the top are unbeatable—especially if you’re lucky enough to visit around sunset. However, if you’re going here in the summer, note that sunset might be a bit late, so you might not be able to catch that golden hour.
Pro Tip: The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is huge, and there’s so much to take in. If you’re like me and love reading all the exhibits, make sure to budget a few hours for your visit—the last hour should be spent on the top floor looking at gorgeous views. |

FortWhyte Alive is hands down one of the best nature spots in Winnipeg—an absolute must-see no matter the season. Spending the weekend here, surrounded by nature views, is a peaceful way to escape the city.
One of the coolest things we love here is the floating boardwalks—walking on them gives you a close-up view of the wetlands and the animals that call it home. You can even rent binoculars to get an even better skyline view of the wildlife.
Plus, there are plenty of trails that wind through the marshland, giving you lots of opportunities to see geese, ducks, and other local animals up close. There’s even bison viewing available.
Feeling famished? There are a few picnic tables scattered around, so you can stop for a quick bite by the lake while soaking up the scenery.
Pro Tip: If you time your visit right, you might witness the sunset goose flight amidst the skyline—one of those magical moments that really makes FortWhyte special. |

Whenever I’m in the mood for a good walk with a view, The Esplanade Riel is my go-to spot. This footbridge, which links The Forks with Winnipeg’s French Quarter, is a “people path,” and you can just feel the sense of community as you cross it.
The bridge itself is quite a sight—the way the spire reaches into the sky feels like a symbol of connection. There’s even a picturesque historical diorama you can check out while crossing.
We enjoy going here at night at around 10 PM because they put on a light show that makes the area look absolutely gorgeous. You can take some photos or videos of the skyline as the lights change.
And there’s always something happening around it, from breakdancers to food vendors, so it never feels dull. You can even catch a water taxi right nearby—a fun way to see more city views!
Pro Tip: Start your walk about an hour before sunset and take your time exploring all four corners of the bridge. By the time the sun sets and the moon is high and bright, you’ll be treated to a magical view of the city’s skyline. |

Not only is The Manitoba Hydro Building the most energy-efficient office tower in North America, but it also looks gorgeous. That’s why it won the Canadian Architect’s Award for Design Excellence, which says a lot about how well it was thought out.
As a matter of fact, it connects directly to Winnipeg’s downtown skywalk system—super convenient if you’re wandering and sightseeing through the city.
As a bonus, each floor was designed with openness in mind, so you get unobstructed views from pretty much anywhere. Thanks to full-height glazing throughout, there’s tons of natural light, and the access to fresh air really sets this building apart.
If you get the chance to visit the rooftop terraces and atria, don’t miss out—the views of the Exchange District from up there are absolutely stunning.
Pro Tip: If you’re looking to stretch your legs or just enjoy nature views, check out Manitoba Hydro’s landscaped public courtyard and park on Graham Avenue. |

Portage Place Shopping Centre has been one of my top picks for city skyline views in downtown Winnipeg for years, and it’s easy to see why.
I love the three-glass skylight atria that flood the space with natural light. Two of these are at the intersections of Portage and Kennedy and Portage and Edmonton, making it easy to take in the sights of the city while you’re strolling through the space.
Another highlight is the glass skywalk that connects both ends of the mall. Not only is it really convenient for getting around downtown, but it also offers some pretty awesome skyline views of Winnipeg.
Speaking of views, you get an interesting perspective of the buildings on the north side of Portage Avenue.
Pro Tip: For the best city views from Portage Place, head to the skywalk just as the sun is setting—the city skyline looks especially beautiful at that time. |

Tavern United Downtown’s rooftop patio is a must-visit, especially for those who love unfussy pub-style eats like nachos, chicken fingers, and burgers. Comfort food plus views of Winnipeg’s downtown skyline? Yes, please!
From up on the rooftop, you get an awesome view of the city, including True North Square, while sipping on dozens of premium beers, many of which are local favorites. If beer isn’t your thing, don’t worry—they’ve got a pretty solid cocktail menu, too.
The vibe is unbeatable; it even has heaters to keep you cozy even on cooler nights. In fact, we always end up staying until almost closing, thanks to those heaters!
One of the best nights to visit is on Wednesdays or Thursdays when they have music and dancing, which really amps up the atmosphere.
Pro Tip: Planning ahead is definitely worth it for that rooftop view! Book your patio table at Tavern United in advance; otherwise, you’re looking at a 60-90-minute wait, especially during peak times. |

St. Boniface City Hall is a three-storey red brick beauty that has so much character and stands proudly in a landscaped yard, set back from the street.
From the upper level, you can see views of the busy T-intersection of Provencher Boulevard and Aulneau Street. You’ll also have great sightlines stretching along Provencher from both the east and west.
The building’s architecture is something to admire as well. Its square wooden tower is the centerpiece, rising above the entrance with four beautifully detailed stages.
At the top, you’ll spot large circular clocks surrounded by columns and pediments, while a domed roof and flagpole complete the look. The attention to detail makes this place a cool addition to the Winnipeg skyline.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget to stroll around the yard for different perspectives and some great photo ops. Plus, the views down Provencher and the architectural details of the tower are perfect for snapping a few memorable shots. |

Promenade Taché is located along the banks of the Red River in the historic St. Boniface neighborhood. The charming walk stretches from the Provencher Bridge to the Norwood Bridge.
As you walk along the scenic and Insta-worthy trail, you’ll find a series of plaques that share stories and info about the area’s history.
The promenade itself is wide and perfect for pedestrians and cyclists alike. Check out views at the pedestrian belvedere—a kind of elevated lookout that gives you stunning sights of the Red River, the Provencher Bridge, and, of course, the Winnipeg skyline.
We also love the public art at the Belvedere. We even learned that the whole area’s designed to connect visitors to St. Boniface’s key spots while offering one of the best views of downtown Winnipeg—cool, huh?
Pro Tip: For the best skyline photos at Promenade Tache, head to the pedestrian belvedere around sunset when the light reflects off the river and the buildings. |

Westview Park, or as most locals call it, “Garbage Hill,” is one of Winnipeg’s best-kept secrets when it comes to skyline views. Don’t let the nickname fool you—it may have been built on an old landfill, but the views from the top are worth the visit!
The park itself is spacious and inviting, with large grassy areas perfect for picnics, playing sports, or just relaxing with friends and family. There are scenic trails that wind through the park for casual hikes or bike rides.
Climbing up gives you one of the best panoramic views of the Winnipeg skyline. We just love how the city stretches out before you in a way that’s just picture-perfect.
What makes the view even more special is the gardens. During the warmer months, the park bursts into color as flowers and plants of all kinds bloom throughout the area.
Pro Tip: Westview Park is a popular space for events and photoshoots. So if you’re looking for a unique backdrop for family photos or just want to snap some amazing shots of Winnipeg, this is your spot! |

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is an absolute must-visit for fresh air and fresh art. Not only is WAG one of Canada’s leading art museums, but it also holds the world’s largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art.
Not everyone, however, knows about WAG’s stunning Rooftop Sculpture Garden, which comes to life during the summer months.
Head up to the Penthouse Level on the 4th floor and you’ll be greeted by the beautiful sculptures from WAG’s collection. We also love the water fountain there that sets such a meditative vibe.
Of course, the rooftop is an ideal place to snap some photos of the Winnipeg skyline, with the city’s architecture framed by the rooftop’s greenery and sculptures.
Pro Tip: Pack a lunch, grab a book or sketch pad, and make a day of it. WAG’s rooftop is the perfect spot to unwind, and those skyline views are hard to beat! |

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada started more than 40 years ago, and now, it has one of the biggest collections of aviation heritage in the country.
Inside, you’ll find a huge hangar full of cool old airplanes, but the real highlight is the mezzanine. From there, we can watch planes take off, land, and move around on the runways at the nearby Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport.
The observation deck is also a favorite of ours, with binoculars available so you can get a closer look at all the action. It’s a great way to spend some time watching the planes while enjoying views of the airport and the Winnipeg skyline.
After soaking in the views, we make sure to drop by the museum’s space-themed play area so that our little ones can grab a snack from the canteen.
Pro Tip: Bring a camera with a zoom lens to capture some cool shots of planes taking off and landing, with the city skyline in the background. |

It doesn’t matter if you’re a local or just passing through—you definitely should not miss The Royal Canadian Mint. What’s cool is that it’s one of only two national mints in Canada where every single Canadian circulation coin is made.
They’re known for their 45-minute tours led by guides who walk you through the entire coin production process. When we went on the tour, we had a bird’s eye view of the production floor, as well as amazing views outside.
In fact, within about 10 km of the area, we were able to spot landmarks like The Forks, the Manitoba Museum, the French Quarter, and the Manitoba Legislature.
The building itself is stunning, especially at sunset. Its sleek glass exterior glows under the warm orange prairie sky, making it one of the most beautiful buildings in Winnipeg.
Pro Tip: Plan your visit to the Royal Canadian Mint for a weekday when the Mint is in production. The tours are extra special when you can see the machines in action and watch the coins being made! |

Assiniboine Park offers plenty to do year-round. Whether you’re exploring, relaxing, or enjoying the sights, it’s packed with attractions and activities.
We recommend checking out the zoo, where you can see polar bears and seals up close at the Tundra Grill. And don’t miss The Leaf, a huge atrium filled with tropical plants, a waterfall, and even butterflies on the upper level.
It goes without saying that the views are beautiful, from the lush greenery and flowers to the scenic water around the ponds. You’ll also catch the amazing Winnipeg skyline.
As you walk around the park, check out the beautiful English Garden with its colorful flowers and charming paths. You can also rent a tandem bike or have fun at the Nature Playground—here, you won’t ever run out of skyline views.
Pro Tip: Pack a picnic and find a spot near the water for some of the best views in Assiniboine Park—anyone would love a relaxing break while soaking in the scenery! |
