12 Best Saunas in Winnipeg That Have Captivated Local Wellness Junkies

My idea of wellness usually means not going for the supersized meal when asked by the McDonald’s cashier, so when my friend dragged me to a sauna, I was more than skeptical. I mean, sweating in a small room didn’t exactly sound relaxing at all.

But wow, was I wrong! There’s something magical about the soothing heat, the calming scents of wood and essential oils, and sweating out all the stress. Not only did my skin glow afterward, but my mind felt clearer, and my mood was instantly lifted.

Since then, I’ve been completely hooked on saunas. I’m sure you will be, too (if you’re not already!), after checking out my list of the best saunas in Winnipeg!

Looking for a unique way to relax and recharge without leaving home? Check out the Backyard Barrel, Manitoba’s go-to for wood-burning sauna rentals.

Perfect for staycations, birthdays, anniversaries, or just because, this sauna experience will take your next event from “meh” to amazing.

The saunas aren’t your average steam rooms—picture a cedar barrel that can comfortably fit up to six adults. Each one is powered by a wood-burning stove, which creates that soul-warming heat (up to over 90°C!) that only wood can deliver.

When we booked a rental, we were happy that they took care of everything. Delivery, setup, and a hearty supply of firewood (enough for 6+ hours of use) are all included in their package!

Pro Tip:

If you’re going somewhere for the weekend, we suggest going for the two-night rental package. For just $350, you get two nights of sauna bliss, two 50-lb bags of dry firewood, and free delivery within Winnipeg!

Address: 1539 Kenaston Blvd, Unit 200

Hours: Mon–Sun: By appointment only

Rē Sauna is Winnipeg’s first infrared sauna studio—a great spot to enjoy some “me-time” with all the benefits of a private sauna session. Plus, you get to schedule your session when it works for you—total convenience.

Now, infrared saunas are different from the traditional ones because the waves penetrate deep into your skin, helping to detoxify your body. They also give your cells a boost, rejuvenating them and even kicking your metabolism into gear.

What’s really cool is that you can choose from three different types of infrared wavelengths based on what you need.

Far infrared waves are perfect for detoxing and easing those sore muscles, while mid-infrared goes deeper, to help with injuries and inflammation. And if you’re all about skincare (like me!), near-infrared is your new best friend.

Pro Tip:

To get the most out of your Rē Sauna experience, consider booking a massage before or after your session. It’ll double the relaxation and recovery benefits, leaving you feeling completely refreshed!

Ten Spa, nestled on the 10th floor of The Fort Garry Hotel, is the perfect urban escape if you’re looking for a top-tier sauna experience.

Their authentic Turkish hamam, the heart of the spa, promises a deeply relaxing journey surrounded by heated marble and steam. More than just a sauna, it’s an ancient cleansing ritual meant to refresh your body and soul.

We started our hamam adventure with their “Intro to Hamam” experience. To gently ease into the ritual, we were served Moroccan mint tea and a sweet Turkish treat.

From there, we enjoyed a salt rub and a traditional rinse, followed by soothing head, scalp, and foot massages—all while lying on a heated marble slab. Sounds divine, right?

Pro Tip:

If you’ve had a rough week at work, treat yourself with Ten’s Ultimate Day Pass. This includes access to all of Ten Spa’s amenities, including a one-hour hamam experience.

Fast forward to today, it now offers everything from sauna sessions and personal coaching to fitness assessments and nutrition counseling. These are all included in your membership.

We love its traditional dry sauna and steam room, which is perfect for post-workout recovery. These can be found in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms.

In addition to the sauna, it offers a full gym, personal training, recovery programs, and wellness services to help you meet your health goals.

Pro Tip:

After your sauna session, visit their onsite Reh-Fit Café. Choose a light snack or a wholesome meal from their delicious options to keep your health kick going!

Elevate Sports Recovery and Performance is owned and operated by experts in the health and sports fields. We learned that the founders have worked with professional athletes for decades, and now they’re bringing that same expertise to you.

One of the highlights is their infrared sauna therapy. When we tried it, the infrared heat not only relaxed our muscles and eased tension but also boosted our mood.

Plus, if you’ve been tossing and turning at night, regular infrared sauna sessions can help regulate your sleep patterns, leading to more restful sleep. Who doesn’t want that?

But the benefits don’t stop there! The heat from the sauna even promotes circulation—a great way to flush out toxins after a tough workout or a long, stressful day.

Pro Tip:

If you’re planning to make sauna sessions part of your routine, we recommend their packages to save some cash. The intro offer is just $20 for a 40-minute session, or you can grab a package like 3 sessions for $120 or even 10 sessions for $300!

St. James Assiniboia Centennial Pool and Fitness Centre is an affordable yet solid place to work out and unwind. We appreciate its budget-friendly membership fees—perfect for those who want the perks of a bigger gym without breaking the bank.

The sauna is set at just the right temperature. If you’re a woman, you’ll love the added privacy of having your own sauna right off the shower in the ladies locker room.

To really take your relaxation up a notch, we suggest complementing your sauna routine with a dip in their hot tub. While the tub is on the smaller side, with a 3-person limit, it’s still nice to ease your muscles.

What’s really great is that it’s a full fitness facility. Beyond the sauna and tub, you’ve got access to a gym, pool, weight room, and track.

Pro Tip:

If you’re bringing little ones under 7 to the pool, make sure they’re always accompanied by a parent, guardian, or caregiver. The required ratio at St. James is one adult for every four children.

If you love to relax and rejuvenate, their sauna is a must-try. Delivering dry heat, they’re designed to detoxify your body, relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being.

We always come here for their Himalayan Salt Lounge, a luxurious type of sauna, since we enjoy a little meditation and relaxation. The Himalayan salt wall releases negative ions into the air, promoting a sense of calm and tranquility.

The luxury doesn’t stop there—they also offer steam cabins in each change room.

Pro Tip:

Before or after your sauna, take a dip in Altea’s 25-meter lap pool, available to all members for swim training, lessons, or aquafit classes. The best part is that access for your immediate family is included in your membership!

The Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex has a dry sauna open to all visitors, making it a popular community hub. After working out, it’s a lovely way to ease muscle tension and de-stress.

Bonus points if you prefer swimming before using the sauna; this complex is a dream for lap swimmers. With three to five lanes typically available, I can usually get in a good swim without feeling crowded.

Once you’re done swimming, why not hit the gym as well? It’s clean, well-equipped, and usually pretty quiet, giving you a solid space to get in a workout before your relaxing sauna sesh.

Of course, since this is a community gym, we noticed that it tends to fill up during weekends (especially when there’s a free swim day going on). So, plan your sauna visit accordingly.

Pro Tip:

Feeling peckish after your sauna session? Head over to the concession area, which offers crave-worthy Chinese food.

The YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg is where families and individuals can connect, play, and relax. In fact, many members call it their second home, thanks to its welcoming atmosphere and the variety of activities available.

We love the family-friendly dry sauna here. After a good workout or swim, we like stepping into the sauna to soothe our sore muscles.

In addition to the sauna, there’s a full range of amenities, including a swimming pool, fitness classes, childcare, and family programs.

Not only is this gym truly a one-stop shop for health and fitness, it’s affordable to boot! Membership prices are definitely lower compared to luxury or private gyms.

Pro Tip:

Check out their extensive lineup of fitness classes to complement your sauna trips. Examples include Aqua Zumba, CycleFit, Hatha Yoga, and even Family Circuit!

Hours: Mon – Sun: 8:30 AM – 10 PM

Right next to Crescent Drive Golf Course lies Thermëa by Nordik Spa-Nature. It’s known for its world-class thermotherapy facilities, so expect to pay a pretty penny for their top-notch services.

At the heart of the spa’s experience is the thermal cycle, a heat therapy ritual that’s been practiced in Nordic countries for over 2,000 years. It involves alternating between hot and cold temperatures, followed by a peaceful rest period.

The first step of the cycle takes place in the sauna. When we went through this, the intense heat caused our pores to open, releasing built-up toxins through perspiration—it felt amazing!

After the sauna, we cooled down with a brisk dip in a cold bath or a refreshing experience under an icy waterfall. While we did feel a little bit of a shock to the system, we also felt invigorated.

Pro Tip:

When hunger strikes, treat yourself to an authentic gourmet meal at Thermëa’s on-site restaurant. For a real treat, try the striploin steak by Chelsea’s Chef Arseneau.

GoodLife Fitness says sitting in the sauna can actually boost your pulse by 30%, so even while you’re chilling, your heart’s still getting a little workout. That’s why they offer dry saunas.

After we finish up a group class, strength training, or a round of weights, we usually head straight to the sauna—the best way to treat yourself after all that effort. That dry heat helps our muscles recover faster and eases our tension.

The coolest part is that sauna access is included with their Premium, Ultimate, and Performance memberships. No extra fees are needed—just pure relaxation.

Pro Tip:

GoodLife recommends keeping your sauna sessions to 15 minutes and staying hydrated before, during, and after.

Unlike your community gym, they offer both dry and wet saunas. Just a quick tip—when you arrive, be sure to turn on the sauna by adjusting the dial since, from our experience, it takes about 10 minutes to heat up to the perfect temp.

After your sauna or steam room session, you can rinse off in their luxurious rainfall showers. We definitely felt fancy!

The spa even offers snacks if you could use a bit of a boost. Crackers, dried fruit, cheese, and coffee that hit the spot—what more can you ask for?

Pro Tip:

For couples, Riverstone offers special booking options for a shared spa experience, but just a heads-up—the saunas and steam rooms are separate for men and women.
