14 Best Horseback Riding Spots in Winnipeg That Local Equestrians Go To

Growing up on a farm, I learned to ride horses with my grandfather. The feeling of the open countryside, the wind in my hair, and the rhythm of the horse beneath me—it was pure magic.

So when I moved to the city, I found myself missing those peaceful rides. That’s why over the years—one by one—I discovered some of the best horseback riding spots in and around Winnipeg.

If you share my love for riding, take a look at my curated list. Then, saddle up and check out my favorite places!

Poco Razz Farm

Address: 130 Greenview Rd

Hours: Mon – Sun: 8 AM – 8 PM

Contact: (204) 255-4717

Located conveniently close to the city, Poco-Razz Farm is an amazing spot for horseback riding, run by Jim and Christina Shapiro since 1982. They named the farm after their first two beloved horses, Poco and Razz.

We love how well they care for their horses—they live in a herd and are rotated through eight spacious pastures. The pastures are also well-kept with flat, debris-free ground, plenty of shade, and no stones to worry about.

Riders also get access to an excellent riding arena that’s 80 feet wide and 160 feet long. The arena has great footing and is well-drained. They even ask riders to keep the arena clean by removing any manure left by their horses.

There’s also a beautifully designed tack room that can accommodate up to 24 riders, plus a separate restroom and change room.

Pro Tip:

Poco-Razz Farm hosts an annual First Aid for Horses Clinic in early September. This free clinic offers valuable insights into horse care, and they even provide chairs and free refreshments!

The facility is perfect for those interested in Hunters/Jumpers, offering both indoor and outdoor riding arenas, along with small group day turnout.

Personalized riding lessons for all ages and skill levels are available as well. You can take lessons on your own horse, but if you don’t have one (like me!), you can learn on one of their schooling horses.

The stables are actively involved in the local Manitoba horse show scene, with riders competing in Hunters, Jumpers, or both, depending on their experience. If you’re looking to compete, this is the place to be.

Pro Tip:

If you’re looking for a place to board your horse, they offer full-service boarding with top-quality feed, hay, and daily turnout. There’s also an indoor arena with a heated viewing room, a large outdoor sand ring, and an outdoor wash rack.

Nestled at the gateway to Whiteshell Provincial Park, Falcon Beach Ranch offers scenic wooded trails for you to explore while riding through nature.

You can go here for a quick day trip. However, if you have time, we highly recommend staying in one of their cozy log cabins, set on a rock ridge with peaceful views of the ranch.

For young horse lovers (kids 7 to 15), they offer an exciting Horsemanship Day Camp. The five-day camp is full of hands-on horse experience, where kids will learn about horse care, horsemanship, and trail riding.

And if you own a horse, they have well-maintained outdoor corrals and standing stalls for short-term boarding. They can even accommodate longer stays upon request, so don’t hesitate to reach out!

Pro Tip:

Try their winter sleigh rides, where a team of Belgian Draft horses pulls the sleigh through the snowy forest. Make sure to bring some blankets, as the rides last about 45 to 60 minutes.

And for those new to riding, they offer an extra half-hour of instruction on how to safely work around horses, groom them, and prepare for riding.

They even host exciting summer camps for kid equestrians aged 8 and up. Led by certified instructors, the camps are designed to match the skill level of each participant—from Beginner or Novice 1 to Novice 2 and Advanced.

Miracle Ranch has been a cherished spot for horseback riding since it was founded in 1971 by Dave Loewen and his wife. In fact, it’s one of our go-to spots for indoor and seasonal riding.

One of their best features is their indoor arena, which allows horseback riding no matter the weather—rain or shine, summer or winter, you can enjoy riding in comfort. One time, we went there while it was snowing, but we still felt quite toasty inside!

During the winter, the ranch transforms into a cozy winter wonderland with private hay and sleigh rides. Each sleigh can hold up to 25 adults, and the rides last around 40 minutes, leaving on the hour.

Plus, if you’re interested in learning to ride, lessons in Western riding, English riding, or even jumping are on offer, so you can pick the style that suits you best!

Pro Tip:

From May to September, Miracle Ranch offers group horseback rides, available from Tuesday to Sunday. These 50-minute rides are only available if there are enough reservations, so it’s always a good idea to book ahead and secure your spot.

Sagehill Stables

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sagehillstables/

Address: 4180 Waverley St

Sagehill Stables’ team believes that horses are a lifelong passion—that’s why they want to help riders build a lasting connection with these incredible animals. You can bond with them using their indoor riding arenas and outdoor pastures.

They’re known for their popular horse leasing service that not all ranches offer. Leasing is a great way to experience the joy of horseback riding without the full commitment of owning a horse.

They also provide horseback riding lessons through their introductory and equestrian development programs. Their lessons definitely helped me develop my knowledge and riding skills.

Beyond riding lessons, they provide golden opportunities to join a drill team, volunteer, or even become a junior coach.

Pro Tip:

For riders aged 8 to 14, Sagehill hosts amazing day camps during Spring Break and summer holidays (several weeks during March, July, and August). Make sure to book way in advance so that you can snag their early bird discount!

Located on a beautiful 77-acre property, the ranch is set in a peaceful spot with a steady breeze, surrounded by fields and trees. This gorgeous and calm environment makes it one of my favorite horseback riding haunts.

You can sign up for riding lessons for all levels. In fact, riders are free to choose which style to focus on: English, Western, or vaulting.

We also love their fun and educational day camps. Campers get to ride with CHA-certified instructors and learn all about horses through engaging activities like gymnastics on horseback, horse-watching, and team-building exercises.
