Catch the Buzz at the Best Spots for Disc Golf in Winnipeg

Whoever said golf needs fairways and caddies hasn’t tried tossing discs through Winnipeg’s best disc golf courses—bonus points because these spots are free to enjoy.

Disc golf puts a creative twist on traditional golf while delivering the same level of satisfaction as golfing in Winnipeg. It requires fewer clubs and adds a lot more imagination to the game.

We spent a few weekends perfecting our aim (mostly retrieving rogue throws from bushes) to finding the top spots where strategy and precision come together in this fun outdoor activity.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or someone who still calls it “frisbee golf,” these courses offer a fun way to spend a day outdoors and challenge your skills.

Happyland Park Disc Golf

Location: 558 Prosper St

Operating hours: Open 24 hours

Established in 2001, Happyland has grown into a solid disc golf course that offers a great experience for everyone.

The course features 18 concrete tees and 9 baskets. It essentially means you get to play a fun, adaptable 9-hole experience.

Don’t be fooled by the “9-hole”, though—the dual-tee system allows for varied shot selection and caters to different skill levels.

It’s nestled within a gorgeous park, too. There’s a modern playground with climbing structures, slides, swings, and scenic views of the Seine River to explore.

Whether you’re a beginner or someone who thinks they can bend a disc-like Beckham (spoiler: it’s not that easy!), there’s plenty to enjoy here.

Players also rave about the course’s well-maintained concrete tee pads, clear signage, and thoughtful design that incorporates the park’s natural beauty.

Pro Tip:

Parking within the park is very limited. To avoid the hassle, grab a spot on nearby side streets, such as Prosper Street.

Kilcona Outback Disc Golf

Location: 1180 Springfield Rd

Operating hours: Open 24 hours

Kilcona challenges players with 17 holes, featuring grass tees and a variety of target types. You’ll find Latitude 64 Elite, some homemade concoctions, and even DISCatcher Super Sport targets. Basically, they’ve got something for every type of thrower.

What sets Kilcona apart is its rolling hills and varied elevation. Think of it as nature’s StairMaster, but way more enjoyable.

This terrain provides a solid workout and pushes you to get creative with your shots. The landscape is a beautiful mix of open fields for powerful throws and clusters of trees that test your accuracy and your patience.

However, the course’s rugged terrain might be challenging for those with mobility issues. But if you’re up for the challenge, Kilcona is a stunning and rewarding course to tackle.

Pro Tip:

Be prepared for the demanding terrain and wear appropriate footwear. Wear hiking boots, not flip-flops.

Location: Wellington Ave

Operating hours: Open 24 hours

Established in 2021, this 18-hole course was originally designed for military personnel. Now, they’re graciously opening their gates to civilian players—a rare chance to play disc golf on an active military base.

The course offers a mix of rustic charm and variety. The tee areas include grass and dirt. There’s also a variety of baskets to aim for, such as Latitude 64 Elite and DISCatcher Super Sport targets.

The layout strikes a great balance between wide-open fields for power throws and wooded areas that require precision and finesse.

But as a relatively new course, it’s still a work in progress. The good news? Upgrades like proper tee pads are part of ongoing improvements.

Pro Tip:

One important rule to follow on this course is that no alcohol is allowed, as it’s located on military property.

Location: 4346-4474 Waverley St

Operating hours: Open 24 hours

Since opening in 2016, La Barriere has quickly earned its spot as one of the premier courses in the local disc golf scene—and the hype is well-deserved.

This 18-hole beauty caters to every skill level. Each level offers both long and short tees. For those who prefer a gentler learning curve, some holes feature a “friendly” third tee.

But La Barriere is more than just a well-designed course—it’s a sprawling park covering 84 hectares.

Feeling sporty? You can hit up the ball diamonds or cricket pitches. If you need a quick break, washroom facilities are available. Just remember to pack water—there’s no drinking water on-site.

As a bonus, La Barriere is dog-friendly and cart-friendly. Bring your furry friends and your trusty disc golf cart along for the ride—it’s all about inclusivity!

Pro Tip:

Plan your visit for the fall season. The park’s foliage transforms into a breathtaking display of colors. It creates the perfect backdrop to enhance your disc golf experience.

Operating hours: Open 24 hours

So you’re looking for a disc golf spot in Winnipeg that’s perfect for beginners, families, or anyone wanting to practice their short game? Well, Prince Edward School Disc Golf Course might just be the spot.

This 9-hole gem is all about shorter holes, making it less intimidating and more enjoyable, especially if you’re just starting out.  Plus, the baskets are top-notch, giving you a real feel for sinking those putts and dialing in those approach shots.

Now, for a little twist (and maybe a chuckle): Hole 3 features a mandatory shot through a soccer net. It’s a fun little challenge that sets this course apart.

Just remember, during school weeks, the course is only available after 6 PM because the field is shared with school activities, soccer, and baseball.

Pro Tip:

Plan for Alternate Parking. If the school lot is busy due to events or games, scout nearby street parking to avoid delays.
