  • Environmental Practices - We reached out to recyclers directly and reviewed their websites to understand how they handle vehicle disposal and recycling.

When our car reached the point when the duct tape and quick fixes were no longer enough, we knew it was time to let go. But we didn’t want to just send it off to the scrapyard, forgotten and wasted.

Instead, we wanted to ensure it could be repurposed—whether that meant salvaging parts or even scoring a bit of cash.

That’s how we ended up diving into Winnipeg’s world of auto recyclers. It turns out some incredible folks in the city can take your beloved clunker and give it a whole new purpose.

Here’s a rundown of the best places to turn your old ride into something useful.

How much do auto recyclers in Winnipeg pay for scrap vehicles?

Auto recyclers in Winnipeg typically pay between $200 and $1,000 for scrap vehicles.

However, the final price may change depending on factors like the vehicle’s make, model, and current scrap metal prices.

Bucks Auto Parts Winnipeg is part of this huge chain of auto recyclers across Western Canada. They’re big on recycling old cars the right way, which we love.

The self-serve feature they offer is fantastic. You go in, find the car you need parts from, and pull them off yourself. We managed to score some parts for way cheaper than buying new ones.

Plus, their online inventory is a lifesaver. You can check if they have the car you need before heading there, saving you time. They also accept vehicle donations if you have an old rust bucket you need to get rid of.

They’re even focused on giving back, which we always appreciate. They work with the Kidney Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society—thumbs up for that. They also engage in environmental education initiatives.

However, we did hear a few grumblings about some rude customer service experiences. It’s something to keep in mind if you value exceptional service during your visit.

  • Accepts vehicle donations
  • Convenient online inventory
  • Supports community causes

Cons

  • A few reports of rude customer service

Mountain View Auto & Truck Parts has been around since 1994, so we figured they must be doing something right.

And let us tell you, their yard is massive—4 acres with a 6,000 sq. ft. facility. We were impressed by the sheer volume of parts they have.

We were also pleased with their warranty policy. Depending on the part, they offer a standard 30- or 60-day warranty. For us, that’s a big deal because it means they stand behind what they sell.

They also buy old cars. This could be a convenient option for anyone looking to sell a vehicle quickly and hassle-free in the future.

We really appreciate that they offer both self-serve and full-service options. We opted to have their staff help us this time, and they were knowledgeable.

However, a few customers mentioned that they couldn’t always find the specific parts they needed. This could be an issue if you’re looking for hard-to-find items or have specific repair needs.

Thumbs up from us on the environmental front—they’re clearly doing their part. They even go the extra mile by offering workshops on responsible vehicle disposal and contributing to local clean-up events.

On the parts front, we found some excellent deals. We left with a few items we had been needing, and our bank accounts were certainly relieved.

Orloff Scrap Metals has been a mainstay in the Winnipeg recycling game for over 50 years—a true veteran of the industry. It’s a family-run operation as well, which we always appreciate.

They offer competitive prices for both ferrous and nonferrous materials, which is a thumbs up for us. They also deal with everything from steel and copper to aluminum, brass, and lead. This serves everyone from regular folks to large industrial accounts.

But their bin service for businesses stood out to us. They offer a service where they drop off a bin for you to fill with scrap during your renovation or demolition and then haul it away when you’re done. There’s no rental fee for the bin, by the way.

While they get a lot right, their reputation isn’t completely spotless. We did come across a few online mentions of occasional rude customer service experiences.

  • Over 50 years in the industry
  • Competitive prices
  • Wide range of materials
  • Offers free bin service

Cons

  • Rude customer service

Recycle Your Ride has been in the business of turning unwanted vehicles into cash since 2012. One of the first things we noticed was their wide service area.

They don’t just operate in Winnipeg; they also cover surrounding areas like Anola, Beausejour, Selkirk, and more. This is especially helpful if your friends or family in these areas might need the service.

What really impressed us was how smooth the entire process was. Just a quick fill-out of their online form, and you’re good to go.

They even picked up our old vehicle for free. From start to finish, it felt like they respected our time and made everything as efficient as possible.
